Additional Information: Violet Gooday was the first person killed in Hastings as a result of the bombing raids. A lone bomber dropped 11 high explosive bombs on Gladstone Terrace, Whitefriars Road, Bembrook Road, Priory Road and the Cricket Ground. Nine other people were wounded, two seriously.
The information provided by CWGC states that Violet died aged 34 at the Municipal Hospital. She was married to Mr R Gooday.
I missed Violet’s grave marker when I visited Hastings Cemetery, so will provide a photograph of it after I go there again.
