Name: Amelia Wheeler
Died on: Tuesday, 10th September 1940
Died at: Buchanan Hospital, but likely injured near to her home at 5 Tower Road West, St Leonards
Additional Information: Amelia Wheeler, aged 83, died when a lone bomber dropped 10 high explosive bombs, and 40 incendiaries on Hollington Park, The Green, Sedlescombe Road South, Tower Road West, St Peter’s Road, Cloudsley Road, Woodland Vale Road and Christ Church School. One other person was killed, and there were other injuries, number unknown.
The information provided by CWGC states that Amelia was the widow of J A Wheeler.
I was unable to locate Amelia’s grave marker in the main area of WW2 war graves, so she is likely buried else where on site. I will look to find it when I revisit Hastings Cemetery. Amelia isn’t named on Hastings War Memorial.
