Name: James Gamblen
Wounded on: Sunday, 3rd May 1942
Wounded at: 50 Emmanuel Road, Hastings
Additional Information: James Gamblen, aged 83, was wounded when four ME 109’s strafed and bombed Emmanuel Vicarage, Vicarage Road, Emmanuel Road, Barley Lane, Middle Road, The Broadway and Oakfield Road. He died on 5th May at the Municipal Hospital, Hastings. Four others were killed in the raid, with 35 others injured, 12 seriously.
James was the husband of Mary Gamblen and lived at 50 Emmanuel Road, Hastings.
I was unable to locate James’s grave marker in the main area of WW2 war graves, so he is likely buried else where on site. I will look to find it when I revisit Hastings Cemetery.
