Name: George Alfred Martin
Died on: Saturday, 5th October 1940
Wounded near: Bedford Arms Hotel (now Santander Bank), Queens Road, Hastings
Additional Information: George Martin, aged 72, was wounded when a lone bomber dropped 12 HE bombs on the Bedford Arms Hotel, Queens Road, Milward Road, Wellington Road, Cricket Ground, Stonefield Road and Wallinger’s Walk. He died later that day at the Royal East Sussex Hospital. Eight people were killed in the raid with a further nine injured, eight seriously.
George was married to Florence Martin and lived at 5 Wellington Road.
I was unable to locate George’s grave marker in the main area of WW2 war graves, so he is likely buried else where on site. I will look to find it when I revisit Hastings Cemetery.
