Additional Information: Amos Prior was born at his home address of 59 Priory Road, Halton, Hastings on 25th February 1876 to Mr Henry and Mrs Jane Prior (nee Morris). He had two older brothers, Fred and Edward, two older sisters, Ellen and Emma and one younger brother, Arthur.
Amos married Edith Mary Maud Dunk in 1899 and lived at 23 St Georges Road and later at 255 Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings. They had three children, Eva, Amos and Ivy. He was a ‘Hawker’ by trade, selling goods from a hand cart.
Amos was killed aged 64 when a lone bomber dropped 12 HE bombs on the Bedford Arms Hotel, Queens Road, Milward Road, Wellington Road, Cricket Ground, Stonefield Road and Wallinger’s Walk. Eight people were killed in the raid with a further nine injured, eight seriously.
Amos is buried in a plot close to to civilian war graves, his grave marker was buried beneath grass, however is now uncovered and cleaned up. The photograph of Amos was taken in September 1922.
