Additional Information: Mary Backman was killed by a high explosive bomb during a raid by German planes. The information provided by CWGC state that Mary died aged 74 on the 28th, two days after the raid took place on Thursday 26th September. Other bombs during this incident were dropped on London Road, Alfred Street and Silchester Road. It was the third air attack the town suffered on that day.
