Died near: Bedford Arms Hotel (now Santander Bank), Queens Road, Hastings

Additional Information: Florence Stones, aged 52, was killed when a lone bomber dropped 12 HE bombs on the Bedford Public House, Queens Road, Milward Road, Wellington Road, Cricket Ground, Stonefield Road and Wallinger’s Walk. Eight people were killed in the raid with a further nine injured, eight seriously.

Florence, the daughter of Charles Young, was married to John Walder Stones and lived at 42 Queens Road. The inscription on her grave marker reads ‘To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die’.
