22 and 24 Priory Road, Hastings

22 & 24 Priory Road, Hastings

At around 1:30pm on Sunday 12th March 1944 a single HE bomb was dropped by an unknown aircraft. It struck on or near numbers 22 and 24 Priory Road, Hastings, killing five and wounding three.

George Saunders, aged 52, his wife Ethel Saunders, aged 46 and his son, Byron, aged 5 were killed in their home at number 24. Their neighbours, Edward Badham, aged 70 and his daughter Dorothy, aged 49 were killed at number 22.

Additional Information: George Saunders, aged 52, was killed when a single HE bomb hit 22 and 24 Priory Road. Four others were killed in the incident with three others injured.

His wife Ethel Mary Saunders and son Bryon John Saunders also died when the bomb hit. They lived at 24 Priory Road.

Her husband George Saunders and son Bryon John Saunders also died when the bomb hit. They lived at 24 Priory Road.

Additional Information: Edward Badham, aged 70, was killed when a single HE bomb hit 22 and 24 Priory Road. Four others were killed in the incident with three others injured.

Edward was married to R J Badham. His daughter Dorothy May Badham was also killed. They lived at 22 Priory Road.

I was unable to locate Edward’s grave marker in the main area of WW2 war graves, so he is likely buried else where on site. I will look to find it when I revisit Hastings Cemetery.

Additional Information: Dorothy Badham, aged 49, was killed when a single HE bomb hit 22 and 24 Priory Road. Four others were killed in the incident with three others injured.

Dorothy was the daughter of Edward Leslie and R J Badham. Her father was also killed. They lived at 22 Priory Road.

I was unable to locate Dorothy’s grave marker in the main area of WW2 war graves, so she is likely buried else where on site. I will look to find it when I revisit Hastings Cemetery.
